Our Local Folk Summer Series is back!!! Join us at The Flat Iron on Friday, July 24, for a live concert featuring Rissi Palmer and Mayia Warren!

Presented in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, our local folk series highlights local emerging artists who are shaping what folk music looks and sounds like right now.

Rissi Palmer is a trailblazing country music artist and songwriter who made history as one of the first Black women to chart on the Billboard Hot Country Songs with her 2007 debut single, "Country Girl." Beyond her recording career, she is a powerful advocate for diversity as the host of the Apple Music show Color Me Country, where she highlights the contributions of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in country music. Based in North Carolina, she continues to release soulful, genre-bending music and was recently honored as a special guest at the North Carolina Folk Festival.

Mayia Warren is a Raleigh-based Gospel artist and worship leader known for her "Gospel Neo Soul" sound that blends soulful R&B, jazz, and autobiographical storytelling. She uses her platform as a legally blind musician and disability advocate to share messages of hope and resilience, as detailed on her LinkedIn profile. Her impact in the North Carolina music scene was recently highlighted by her selection as a Top 3 finalist for the 2026 North Carolina Folk Festival.
